Photograph of Country Meadows - Developed by Mainland DevelopmentMainland Development Co. was organized in 1984 and is active in the acquisition, development, new construction and rehabilitation of affordable housing units in Maine, the Northeast and throughout the United States. Mainland has been a general partner in the development, construction and ownership of over 40 FmHA (Rural Development)/Rural Rental Housing 515 elderly and family housing complexes, as well as State Housing Finance Agency (SHFA) and conventionally financed housing projects for families and seniors. Mainland is an industry leader in the aquisition/rehabilitation of mature, HUD Section 8 projects nationwide, as well as the aquisition/rehabilitation of State or local housing agency financed projects and the conversion of conventional rental units to affordable housing.

Mainland Development Co. is seeking new construction opportunities in municipalities and housing market areas with strong need and public support for affordable rental units. Depending upon market conditions, projects may be mixed-income (both market rate and affordable units in the same complex) or exclusively targeted to low- and moderate-income residents. Mainland also seeks acquisition/rehabilitation opportunities where substantial rehab is an integral part of the preservation process.

West Manor - Developed by Mainland DevelopmentMainland has also co-ventured successfully with non-profit housing sponsors who may have access to land, special funding set-asides, management or supportive service expertise, but do not have the resources to originate and see a project through to completion.

Through its parent company, Liberty Group, Inc., Mainland is affiliated with a full service construction company, Equity Builders, Inc., who serves as General Contractor on the majority of its projects. Mainland is also affiliated with a full-service property management firm, Liberty Management, Inc., specializing in subsidized housing, tax credit compliance, and commercial leasing. Where appropriate, Liberty Management will take over property management of newly constructed or acquired properties, often teaming with experienced service providers to coordinate supportive services for frail senior residents. Where Liberty Management does not directly manage the properties, it monitors project performance through its Asset Management division on a regular basis. Mainland and its affiliates offer the strongest possible team approach to creating and preserving affordable housing nationwide.
